Biography
Robert was born in Brady, Texas, also known as the “geographic heart of Texas”. He was raised on the Mexican border in the small town of Mercedes, Texas, population aprox 10,000, where he attended school through his high school graduation. In addition to playing on the football team and participating in band, Robert achieved Life Scout and became a member of The Order of the Arrow.
He left Mercedes to become a Fightin’ Texas Aggie at Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and became a Commissioned Officer of the United States Army through the Corps of Cadets as an Air Defense Artillery Officer. Robert attended law school at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, graduating in 1967.
Robert was then called for Tour of Duty from 1967-1969 where he was stationed in North Germany assigned to NATO defense with the Royal Netherlands Air Force. At this time, Robert became trilingual by becoming fluent in German. He was already fluent in Spanish, as he was raised on the border of Mexico and his best friend, Alejos, could only communicate as a child in Spanish.
Robert returned to Texas in 1969, when he became certified to practice law by the State Bar of Texas. He then resided in Corpus Christi, as he practiced law as an Assistant City Attorney and became the night court prosecutor. He then continued his legal career by working closely with his mentor, Hubert Stone who introduced him to personal injury law. Robert holds the great distinction of being a Board Certified Personal Injury Specialist for the longest time possible, as he was certified with the first class in 1978. In 1976, Robert created the Brunkenhoefer Law Firm where he strived and succeeded at being one of the most well known personal injury attorneys in South Texas.
Other than law, Robert’s other passion in life is flying. He has been a licensed pilot with instrument rating since 1978. He currently flies his own private plane, a Vans RV-10.
Robert has been happily married to his wife, Margaret, for eighteen years and is the proud father of five children, three of whom are lawyers, as well. He is also the elated grandfather of six grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
